Installation Process of LED Display Screens

There are two common ways to install LED display screens: LED cabinet installation and LED module installation. The former integrates LED modules, power supplies, and other components into a cabinet, and the operator only needs to install the LED cabinet on the steel structure. Therefore, the LED cabinet installation method not only protects the internal components, making the overall structure more reliable, but also simplifies the entire installation process of the LED display screen, making it more user-friendly for operators.

LED module installation directly fixes the module to the steel structure with magnets, but requires technicians to install power supplies, LED receiving cards, and sending cards. Unlike LED cabinet installation, this method makes the LED display screen thinner and more aesthetically pleasing. In addition, LED module installation does not have a screen body, making it more suitable for the installation of indoor LED display screens with smaller areas, thus reducing costs.

  1. Preliminary Survey:

The first step in the LED display screen installation guide is to survey the location where you plan to place the LED display screen. This helps in planning the steel structure, the size of the LED display screen, and the installation method. For LED wall installation, you need to check if the building’s load-bearing strength is sufficient. For outdoor LED display screen installation, you may need to consider whether to use pole-mounted, wall-mounted, hanging, or embedded installation methods.

  2. Steel Structure and LED Screen Design:

After surveying the installation environment for the LED display screen, the steel structure and the size of the LED display screen need to be designed according to the site conditions. Technicians need to ensure that the steel structure and LED screen can fit in the chosen installation location.

  3. Screen Power, Distribution Facilities, and Network Control Line Design:

In addition to designing the size of the steel structure and LED display screen, it is also necessary to plan the power usage of the screen, distribution cabinets, control network cables, and the quantity of fiber optics, and ultimately produce a complete design drawing.

  4. Install Steel Brackets:

Based on the size of the LED display screen and the designed steel structure drawings, weld rectangular pipes into a frame. The quality and safety of the steel structure should be a top priority, and it should be ensured that the brackets are stable during construction. Additionally, the dimensions of the steel structure need to be very precise, with welding errors not exceeding 4mm to avoid rework later on. It is also important to leave a maintenance passage of 700mm to 1000mm for later maintenance.

  5. Install LED Cabinets on the Steel Brackets:

Install the LED cabinet units one by one from bottom to top and from one side to the other using bolts and connecting plates, securing them onto the frame to form a large LED display screen.

  6. Connect Signal Lines:

After the LED cabinet installation is complete, the signal lines of the LED display screen need to be connected to the controller so that video, images, text, and other signals can be sent to the LED display screen via the sending box or video processor. Ensure that the signal line connections are secure to avoid any transmission issues.

  7. Connect Power:

Once the LED display screen is installed, it needs to be powered. Connect the power cord of the LED display screen to the power outlet, ensuring that the power cord connections are secure to avoid wire breakage or short circuits.

  8. LED Screen Calibration:

After powering on, the LED display screen needs to be configured and calibrated using the control system to check if the screen is displaying correctly and if there are any bright or dark spots, or uneven colors. Any issues need to be adjusted promptly.

  9. LED Display Screen Maintenance:

After strictly following the LED display screen installation guide, the final step is to inspect and maintain the LED display screen. Carefully check the waterproof layer, coatings, heat dissipation, etc., to prevent water and moisture from entering the cabinet and damaging the LED display screen. Also, ensure that basic training on the LED screen is available for predictive maintenance.

  • LED Module Installation

  1. Steel Structure and LED Screen Design:

The first step in installing LED modules is to survey the installation environment and design the steel structure and the size of LED display screens accordingly.

  2. Install Steel Structure: The LED modules need a steel structure to support them. The steel structure is usually made of 40x40mm or 40x20mm rectangular pipes. After welding the steel structure, use expansion bolts, chemical bolts, or angle steel hooks to secure the frame to the wall. Leave a space of about 10mm behind the bracket for ventilation since indoor LED display screens generally cannot install fans.
  3. Install Power and Cables:

After installing the steel structure, install the DC5v cables and power directly on the pipes or walls. The cable installation needs to be completed before installing the power. The power can be directly fixed on the side of the square tube or wall using mounting brackets and self-tapping screws or fixed on the side of the square tube using cable ties. The position of the power needs to be calculated according to the power load, the number of LED modules loaded by a single power supply when arranged horizontally and vertically.

  4. Install LED Receiving Card and Connection Line:

Connect the receiving card to the data line, then fix it to the frame with a fixing plate or screws. Before installing the receiving card on the steel structure, the cable needs to be connected to the J1, J2, J3… interface of the receiving card in the order of the program file. Then connect the LED receiving card in order with the network cable. The network port near the power supply is the input port. In addition, the output port of the first receiving card should be connected to the input port of the second receiving card.

  5. Install LED Modules:

After assembling the LED modules and magnets, connect the receiving card’s ribbon cable and the DC5v ribbon cable of the power output terminal to power the LED modules. The LED modules should be installed from bottom to top and from the middle to the sides to make it easier to control the vertical and horizontal errors. This is especially important for small-pitch LED display screens because it requires higher precision. When installing LED modules, make sure there are no gaps between the modules and they are installed tightly to avoid affecting the screen’s flatness and image display effect. Also, use short flat cables to connect the LED modules.

  6. LED Screen Configuration and Calibration:

After installing four LED modules and one receiving card, turn on the power and begin calibration before continuing installation to avoid having to disassemble LED modules if problems arise. There is usually a test button on the control card. After turning on the power, you can press the button to test. If installed correctly, the LED screen will sequentially display red, green, blue, line, field, and point information. Then check if the network cable is working properly through a controlled computer. You can also maximize the visual aesthetics of the LED display screen by adjusting the luminous range during calibration.
